Dancer Guidelines

All Dancers are required to Opagi (present a loaded pipe) to the Dance Leader requesting to dance. At this time, state your reasons, vows, and pledge.

All Dancers must participate in at least one lodge daily during the four days of purification.

When going into the Inipi (sweat lodge) it is suggested that men wear shorts or sarong and women wear sweat dresses or a sarong. Towels are suggested and not supplied.

All Dancers are expected to provide their own helpers and support during the dance. For Dancers, no water is to be touched or used from Tree Day until the dance is completed. You may as a Dancer drink Gatorade, Powerade, Sage or Cedar Tea, only as needed at the beginning and end of each day and not during the dance. Dancers are asked to refrain from eating from Tree Day until the dance is ended (unless a medical concern is present).

Men Dancers are expected to pierce just once a year.

Men Dancers must have their own Canupa, skirt, rope, pegs if piercing, sage crown, wristlets, anklets and both your personal and the required prayer ties and flags.  Woman Dancers must have their own Canupa, dance dress, dance shawl, sage crown, wristlets, anklets and both your personal and the required prayer ties and flags

It is also expected that all Dancers participate in a Hanbleciya before dancing.

Women who are on their moon or are going to be on their moon are asked to refrain from coming to the dance.  If a woman breaks during the dance, she may leave the grounds or an area will be available for her to stay/camp until the end of the dance.

Any other issues or information that needs to be shared or addressed will be done so during the dance meetings.
