Hanbleciya
Hanbleciya
is a ceremony where a single person goes ‘on the hill’ or ‘into the pit’ in
isolation to spend time to fast and pray (popularly known as a ‘Vision
Quest’). The individual stays in that place up to four days and nights
without food and water, with only a buffalo robe for spiritual clothing. Should
the individual get an insight, knowledge or a vision at any time, they will still have to remain on the
hill or in the pit, for the full length of their commitment or until the Elder
comes after him.
Hanbleciya
is required in preparation for many ceremonies, including Sundance.
